About Me

Old Man w/ a Mustache

I recently graduated with a Bachelor's in Biological Pre-medical Illustration at Iowa State University. But in my last semester, I came to realize that I enjoyed doing tech projects more than fine arts projects.

The tech projects I worked on involved data visualization using Processing3, UI/UX design using Adobe XD, and web development using HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript. These projects also played an important role in winning 2 awards. Both came with cash prizes.

The impact these projects made on me and my peers inspired me to embark on a journey to become an IT professional

Currently, I’m attending a 12-week bootcamp at Per Scholas on Mainframe Engineering. There, I’m learning the fundamentals of TSO/ISPF, JCL, COBOL, DB2, CICS, and more.

When designing this project, I developed two different treemaps. One classifies pets by “leaf” and the other by “branch.” Treemaps are great for this type of data because it is easier to take in all the information at once compared to pie and bar charts.

inWOOD is a static website that teaches the basics of wood anatomy. Its target audience is Iowa State University students taking ISU BIOL 454, Plant Anatomy. The website includes 9 pages and 7 quizzes; complete with original illustrations and photographs done by me. inWOOD's purpose is to provide a resource for students as study material. The project came in 2 phases: UI/UX and Web Development.

UI/UX

inWOOD UI/UX Prototype

Dimensions: 1920x1080p

Materials: Procreate, Adobe XD

Reference: Simpson’s Plant Systematics

Originally, the project was called "Into the Wood" and the prototype was created using Adobe XD. For the design layout, I took inspiration from other education-oriented websites such as Khan Academy, Udemy, Coursera, and Duolingo.

This phase was completed within a month before moving on to the second phase: web development.

Pet Types in US Households (2019-2020)

Dimensions: 960x960p

Materials: Processing 3, TreeMappa (plugin)

Data: American Pet Products, “National Pet Owners Survey”

When designing this project, I developed two different treemaps. One classifies pets by “leaf” and the other by “branch.” Treemaps are great for this type of data because it is easier to take in all the information at once compared to pie and bar charts.
